Can You Publish Too Much Content?
Too much content? You can, however, have the wrong content. Let me explain. It is an interesting question and surprisingly, the answer is no not really although there is one exception.
If the content you are providing is worthwhile and is sought after by users then you cannot have overly. If the content you are providing is almost the same thing rehashed a hundred times then it is taking up invaluable area and likely not contributing to your commerce – in fact, it could be detracting from your business.
If you keep adding pages there is a real risk that the site becomes too large for you to manage. I said there was one exception and it is an important exception. Like everything in life, your website requires constant attention and maintenance. If that happens, you have reached a point where there is too much content, not for the web, probably not for your business but certainly for you.
With that in mind, sometimes less can be more. The content you already have should be manageable enough that you can edit and freshen each page on a regular basis. When we talk about providing fresh content, there are many ways of achieving this. Writing a blog is one obvious method but it isn’t the only method. Once a page is created, it is not locked in for life.
In fact, quite than locking that page in for life, get into the habit of consistently reviewing your pages and making changes and updating the data on a regular basis. Having up-to-date data tells your visitors that your site is not a set and forget site. It is a site that has all the most recent data and is well worth returning to on a regular basis.
Can you have overly content? When it comes to the Internet, no. When it comes to your business, probably. When it comes to your capability to administer and sustain it updated and new – most absolutely yes.
